Calathea Freddie is a Brazilian native tropical plant. This is among the Prayer Plant Calatheas, which spread their leaves with the sunrise to absorb the sun. In the evening, the plants withdraw the stripped leaves to get a restful night.

The beautiful striped leaves of a Calathea grow at the end of long stems and require quite a bit of care to stay looking good.

You are surely going to enjoy the circadian rhythm of these plants. The leaves are shiny, elongated, and light-green in color with specific zebra strips and borders in a darker shade. This peep is a nice choice for growing in pots and containers for indoor plantation.

The plant is commonly known as the ‘Zebra Plant’. This is in reference to the specific zebra-like stripes on the entire surface of the leaves.

Calathea plant has beautiful small leaves like the design on leaves. This plant has bright color, upright, oblong leaves. This can grow the indoor plant as table plant or short bush. This can grow well into the pot.

Growing Conditions:

  • Sunlight - It grows well in bright indirect sunlight.
  • Soil- Soil should be well drain and porus.
  • Watering - Poke your finger/plain small stick into the soil to check the moisture. Apply 1 cup (Approx. 50 ml) water when the top soil (3-4 inch) in pot feels dry to touch. Apply water probably in the morning or evening time. Do not overwater the plant. As a rule of thumb, water the plant thoroughly in the summer and reduce watering in winter and rainy season.
  • Fertilizer: Feed with a weak liquid fertilizer throughout the growing season. Cut fertilizer back to once a month or so in the winter.
  • Repotting
calathea are not necessarily fast-growing plants and even healthy specimens likely only need to be repotted every other year. During repotting, gently remove plant from its old container, shake roots clean, and place into new container with fresh potting soil. Divide the plant during repotting to increase your stock. Repot in the spring, before the growing season starts.
  • Planting and care
  • Water the plant regularly throughout the growing season.
  • The mature plant required early in the morning if the soil is dry.
  • Avoid overwatering.
  • Fertilize once or twice during the growing season with nitrogen fertilizer.
  • Prune the dried leaves.
